Sifu Dale Napier
Sifu Napier was born on Carswell Air Force Base on the west side of Fort Worth, Texas, in 1954.
The first in his family line to attend college, he attained his Bachelor of Journalism in 1975
at the University of Texas at Austin
and performed his graduate work at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
Sifu Napier's introduction to martial arts came at the age of 11, when he
trained in Judo at Lajes Air Force Base on Terceira, an island in the
Portuguese-owned Azores. He began training in Yoga at 16 and Karate at 17.
At 19, at the University, he began training in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. Over the
years he trained further in Shorin-ryu Karate, Wah Lum Kung Fu, Togakure-ryu ninpo taijutsu,
Cha Yon Ryu karate, Taekwondo and Yang Taiji (both Traditional and Secret).
Since 1987 he has trained in
taiji, gungfu, and qigong with a number of masters --
Master George Ling Hu, his primary
teacher, and secondarily with Master Jeff Bolt. He trained briefly under
Grandmaster Wang Yen-nien,
Grandmaster Chan Poi, Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming, Dr. Wu Chengde, Master Chen Youze, Grandmaster Yang Jun,
Grandmaster Yang Zhenduo, and Grandmaster Wu Wenhan. He also has trained in Chi Kung and
neijia in the Healing Tao system under
a senior student of Master Mantak Chia, Dr. Jampa Mackenzie Stewart. He has also trained
in qigong and neigong practices, under the name Bao Ming, with Daoist teacher Stuart Alve Olson at his
Sanctuary of Dao in Phoenix, Arizona.
Sifu Napier taught Yangjia Michuan Taijiquan (medium frame Yang style)
at the University of Houston/Downtown from 2002 through 2005.
From 2008 thru 2011 he taught medium and large-frame Yang Tai Chi and Chi Kung at the
Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.
He is past Vice President (2007-2008) of the American Yangjia Michuan
He currently writes about taiji related topics for
Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine
and The Journal of Asian Martial Arts,
and in the past for the
Journal of the American Yangjia Michuan
Taijiquan Association. He is a gold medal winner at international taiji competition,
and now serves as a judge at tournaments. His new book is Tai Chi In Your Life: 8 Principles
That Can Change Your Life While Learning and Growing with Tai Chi. He has also produced a
meditation CD, Tai Chi Meditations.
His DVD, The Thirteen Postures of Yangjia Michuan Taijiquan, covers the short form
created by Grandmaster Wang Yen-nien in 1975; he is currently writing a book to accompany it.
He is now organizing Tai Chi classes in his new home of Boulder City, Nevada.
